a-ha, Take On Me
40th Anniversary Extended Version, 7:30
Not sure which one fits your release? Describe the record and how it will be released, and we will pick the right version together. Megamixes and remixes are possible too.
A longer version of the original single in the spirit of a classic 12-inch. The intro, instrumental passages and breakdowns are built from the multitracks, so the song stays itself and gets more room to breathe.
Best for: Anniversary editions, 12-inch and vinyl EPs, deluxe reissues and DJ-friendly versions.
A stripped back, effects-led version that puts the rhythm section, space and fragments of the vocal up front. It often sits next to the extended mix on the same single or reissue.
Best for: B-sides, bonus tracks, remix EPs and expanded editions.
A modern take on a song: the arrangement is reworked and extended for today, while the original vocal and character stay at the centre. More freedom than a classic extended mix, more respect for the original than a full remix.
Best for: New singles, digital releases and catalogue songs that need a fresh version.
a-ha, Warner Records, 2025
It started in 2015 as a proof of concept. For the official release, the mix was rebuilt from the original stems in the Warner archives.
a-ha's engineer and all three band members approved it. Magne said they like how faithful it is to the original.
Released as A1 on the ruby red 8-track vinyl EP for Record Store Day, 2025.

The multitracks or stems of the recording, plus how the version will be released and when it needs to be ready. For reissues, the original parts are often in the label's archive.
Extended mix, dub mix or extended rework, and the role it plays on the release: an A-side, a bonus track, a vinyl EP or a digital single.
The new version is rebuilt from the separate parts of the recording, so it keeps the sound and feel of the original instead of just repeating sections.
You, the artist and the label sign it off, and the mix is delivered ready for vinyl, CD and digital release.
Need the sleeve as well? Mixing and design happen in one place, so the sound and the artwork of a release are made with the same care for the original.

2010Two remixesAn extended mix is a longer version of a song, traditionally made for the 12-inch single, with a longer intro, instrumental passages and breakdowns. Back To The Multitrack Productions builds extended mixes from the original multitracks or stems, so the new version stays faithful to the original recording.
An extended mix lengthens the original arrangement in the style of a classic 12-inch. A dub mix strips the song back and puts the rhythm section, effects and fragments of the vocal up front. An extended rework is a modern take that reworks and extends the arrangement for today, while the original vocal and character stay at the centre.

It depends on the song and the release. Recent extended versions run from about six and a half to seven and a half minutes, for example Take On Me at 7:30, Lead You Home at 7:21 and Messages at 6:30.
